It's Carnival time, the biggest party of year. This month-long celebration begins with festive 'jump-ups' (street parties), spectacular parades and creative contests.
The Aruba Lighting Parade is one of Aruba's favorite evening carnival parades, held in downtown Oranjestad.
Carnival’s biggest “jump-up” or street party, begins at 4 a.m. in the streets of downtown San Nicolas. Known as the “pajama party,” thousands of carnival lovers follow the live music caravans down the city streets.
The annual carnival festivities culminate with the grand carnival parade, which always falls on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
Also known as Burnout Monday, this national holiday is an official day of rest as a reward for the island's successful carnival season.
