The name, Watamula, is derived from the Dutch word, “Watermolen” (Water Mill) because of the way the currents flow at this amazing dive site: sometimes North to South. Other times South to North - and sometimes they flow full circle!
Located on the northern tip of the island, this site allows you to peer into tunnels and swim through a garden of waving sea fans and gorgonians. Drift among huge stands of healthy corals of many different species and colors, but don’t forget to look out for the sea turtles that are swimming by.
Whatever the current is doing, Watamula is an intense and almost overwhelming spectacle, with fields of hard coral followed by a soft coral patch that turns into another hard coral field, and then the cycle goes on and repeats itself. The site is constantly changing and evolving into something different.
In addition to the mind-blowing quantity and beauty of the coral formations and intensity of macro life - ocean trigger fish, schools of chubs and porcupine fish will have you wanting to experience it all over again.
