Fabulous Family-Friendly Aruba

No worries about keeping your offspring happy on One Happy Island! There’s so much to do for all ages that you might even need another week of holiday here!

Water, water everywhere!

No doubt your brood will have a blast in the pools and beaches and a boatload of fun with tubing, banana boat rides and all the cool water activities easily available close to shore. There are catamarans and parasailing too at Aruba Watersports Centre, and snorkel tours with the island’s spectacular party boats are always a great day out. Jolly Pirates even has a rope swing off the yardarm for grand acrobatic feats into the sea!

Windsurfing on Aruba is also very popular. Lessons for young children and kite-boarding instruction for older ones can be had at Fisherman’s Huts, where world champions have trained, and the calm conditions are ideal for all ages.

More wonderful water fun for the whole family can also be found at the brand new Splash Park Aruba just off Surfside Beach. It’s a massive floating waterpark full of obstacles and zany adventures. And a day at De Palm Island is also a treat for all – toddlers can splash around their waterpark and teens can power snorkel with giant blue parrotfish! They have a zip line, too! Extreme fun for older daredevils (16 and up) can be found at Red Sail Sports with futuristic activities like jet packs over the water called “JetLev”. Or you can go under without getting wet in a real submarine with Atlantis!

Off the beach fun

When your munchkins are getting too much sun, or maybe you’re having a very rare rainy day on Aruba, there is plenty of entertainment indoor as well. Catch a first-run family flick at your choice of modern cinema complexes at Renaissance Marketplace, Paseo Herencia and at Palm Beach Plaza. Also at Palm Beach Plaza they offer glow-in-the-dark bowling and an entire amusement arcade. And after dark, Paseo Herencia’s courtyard is the place to be where a liquid fireworks show entertains four times nightly, and they also have a cool carousel and neon bumper cars that kids will love.

If you have hikers in training, take them out to Arikok National Park for a guided walk. Or how about an ambitious climb up the 500-some steps of Hooiberg mountain? You can also climb up the newly restored California Lighthouse for great views, and the entire family will enjoy climbing all over the bizarre boulders at Casibari where there’s also a kid’s playground across the street. Or get off the ground and take everyone for a high-flying treat via a thrilling aerial tour with Aruba Heli Tours- they fly with all ages!

Cycling is another great family activity, and now there are electric bike rentals! Take a spin along the new linear park that winds from Oranjestad to the airport, and stop for a dip at kid-friendly surfside beach en route.

Critters & Creatures

No doubt, your children will adore the Aruba Butterfly Farm. Go early for the best experience because that’s when the over 200 species of winged wonders are most active. Also go early in your vacation, as your initial entrance fee is good for all return visits! Philip’s Animal Garden is another wonderland for families. It’s a sprawling ranch full of all kinds of animals, most rescued from unfortunate situations and given a forever home. The Aruba Donkey Sanctuary is another rescue oasis for our animal friends, and they love having visitors. (Bring apples and carrots for a really hearty welcome!) Or you can visit the Aruba Ostrich Farm to meet these comical birds and trace their lifespan from egg to maturity with a fun guided tour. Horseback riding is another great way to get your kids close to friendly critters; Aruba has many well-equipped stables with fine steeds for all skill levels.

And of course, most resorts have some kind of entertaining and supervised kid’s day camps or programs to give parents a much need beach break, so ask your front desk for more information.

Enjoy Your One Happy Family Holiday!
