Adults will be like kids in a candy store cavorting around Willemstad, Curaçao’s vast wonderland of culture and history and one of the most interesting harbor towns in the Caribbean. However, even the colorful Handelskade can be lost on little ones. Downtown touring can be tiresome for tots, and tweens and teens might eventually find too much museum trekking a total yawn-fest. But here are two words that every parent visiting Curaçao should consider: Kids Clubs.
Though the beaches and the pools at most resorts should keep children occupied awhile while parents do their best to get in some lounging time, there are only so many sandcastles to make, shells to find, and cannonballs to launch until they begin uttering those two dreaded words: “I’m bored.” That’s when a well-managed kid club or children’s activity director can become a parent’s best friend.
Sunscape Curaçao Resort knows the value of offering a comprehensive children’s plan, their Explorer’s Club even has its own colorful clubhouse and gives kids ages 3-12 fun-filled activities like arts and crafts, science and nature and exploration, movie nights, and even a weekly camp-out adventure! (All supervised by Red Cross CPR certified staff members.) Tweens and teens will also enjoy their own “parent-free” clubhouse there with video games, pinball, and modern music, though supervised, the counselors are cool young adults. Hilton Curaçao also have their own Kidz Paradise Club (4-11 years)- a supervised day camp and a large outdoor play area with climbing towers and slides. And many full service resorts have scheduled children’s activities like the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort that aren’t part of a dedicated kids club, but comprehensive as well.
Ask your resort concierge. So while parents are hunting down history, hitting the casino, getting some spa treatments, or just having an elegant time out, they know their kids are having some well-supervised fun on holiday as well. Of course, there are also lots of fabulous activities that the entire family will enjoy on this island. The Curaçao Sea Aquarium is a kaleidoscope of marvelous marine life adventures for all ages- sharks, seas lions, dolphins, and stingray encounters… and massive aquariums that will delight all ages. Or how about an outing to the cool Ostrich Farm? Then there’s the unique new activity called Aquafari where children 10 & up can join their parents while riding a scooter underwater! Unreal! And older kids – 14 and up- will love the extreme rush of trying a jetpack on the water at Zapata Flyboard, too. There are also lots of spots that teach windsurfing and kitesurfng, and snorkel boat trips are also a great way to spend the day. However, if you want your family to experience Curaçao’s famous coral reefs and marine life without even getting wet, you can also take a semi-submersible submarine tour with SeaWorld Explorer.
And on land, the new massive Sambil modern mall slated for opening March, 2015 will also offer all kinds of family-friendly entertainment including state-of-the-art cinemas, festivals, game rooms, and a huge food court.
So as you can see, Curaçao is not only for adults and romantics, it’s a full-service family friendly holiday destination that can keep all ages entertained, all year-round!
